Together We Protect

7 April 2022

On 1 May we officially celebrate Mother’s Day. And, as always, the remaining 364 days should be delightful extensions of such a tender celebration… In 2022, it is time to return to some good traditions, which is why Zoomarine once again challenges friends and partners to come together, on the following Sunday, to celebrate and honour… Mother Nature.

It will be on that day, 8 May, that around 10 of our beaches (and marine seabeds) will once again host OPERAÇÃO PRAIA LIMPA, between 09:30 and 12:00.

Launched in 2017, in connection with Operação Montanha VerdeOperação Praia Limpa is part of the environmental responsibility initiative Together We Protect. Its aim is to remove, along several kilometres of coastline and seabed, human-origin waste that should never be found on our beaches – but which is becoming increasingly omnipresent, numerous and dangerous.

This year, Operação Praia Limpa will expand its area of action, covering beaches in five municipalities. Even though these beaches are ranked among the cleanest in the world, we will nevertheless strive to make Silves, Albufeira, Lagoa, Loulé and Faro a little cleaner from plastics, cigarette butts, cans, abandoned fishing gear, boat parts, broken appliances, and so much more.

ALGAR SA, the volunteer group of University of Algarve (V+), the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), the Portuguese Navy, the Algarve Tourism Region, Águas do Algarve SA, Lipton, Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa, Europe Direct Algarve, and Olimar Reisen are all part of this initiative, helping to promote and drive a major environmental event that brings together families, friends and colleagues of all ages in an action of mutual support, fun, education for sustainability and, above all, respect for Nature.

Registrations must be completed online between 4 April and 6 May. All participants will receive a digital certificate and, most importantly, the happy memories of an initiative that fills our hearts while emptying our beaches of the waste that should never have reached them.

On 8 May, we look forward to welcoming you to Albufeira, Faro, Lagoa, Loulé and Silves, in defence of our natural heritage. Can we count on your smile, a little of your time and your helping hand?
