An independent assessment by American Humane confirms, for the eighth consecutive time, the consistent application of demanding scientific criteria in animal welfare at Zoomarine.

Zoomarine Algarve has once again been awarded, for the eighth consecutive year, the Global Humane Conservation™ certification by American Humane, in recognition of the park’s ongoing commitment to excellence in the care and welfare of the animals in its care.

Since becoming one of the first zoological facilities in Europe to obtain this certification in 2018, Zoomarine has continuously maintained this international recognition, which is the result of a demanding and scientifically supported independent assessment process.

Global Humane certification once again recognises the dedication and work carried out by Zoomarine teams in the context of animal welfare. It validates our work in an objective and independent manner, in accordance with internationally recognised welfare criteria. Its continuous renewal demonstrates that the work carried out is based on strong scientific criteria that go beyond animal care, recognising the individual experiences of each member of our zoological family and promoting positive life experiences,” says Ana SalbanyZoomarine’s Zoological Collection Director

The criteria assessed include aspects such as habitat suitability, nutrition, water quality, lighting and shade conditions, environmental stimuli, levels of physical activity, social interactions and the technical preparation of professionals who work directly with the animals. The assessment is tailored to the specific needs of each species, ensuring a technically rigorous approach.

The renewal of this certification also reinforces visitors’ confidence in the work carried out by Zoomarine, which ensures that the experience offered to the public is based on high standards of responsibility, transparency, and respect for animals.

With this recognition, Zoomarine reaffirms its position based on the continuous improvement of animal care practices, consolidating a consistent and recognised track record over almost a decade of continuous certification.
