The developing situation in the region remains critical, with volunteers from several organizations still actively monitoring the area, carrying out drills, necropsies and analyses, and maintaining a protocol for rescuing, treating and moving animals if deemed necessary.

At the moment there are barriers in place to prevent these animals from travelling to areas that present a greater risk, but the extent of the severe drought and high temperatures that continue to be felt justifies the continued and urgent international support that is still needed.
