This species of true seal has a wide distribution throughout the Northern Hemisphere. On average, they weigh around 280 pounds and males are slightly heavier than females.

They are opportunistic predators capturing a variety of fish, cephalopods or crustaceans depending on food availability.

Can stay submerged for 30 minutes when resting underwater.
