Sea lion

There are 14 different species of sea lions and fur seals that live, mostly, in temperate and tropical coastal regions.

Species are typically robust, with weights ranging from 330 to over 2200 pounds, and males tend to be bigger than females.

They have long pectoral flippers and, in the water, are used for propulsion helping to achieve more speed. On land, species of this family walk with their 4 flippers.

All species have visible ears and fur. In the case of sea lions, this has only one layer of hair and is short, while fur seals have longer hair and distributed in two layers, increasing the effectiveness in controlling their body temperature.

Here at Zoomarine, you can meet the Californian sea lion and the South African fur seal.
